IXYS Providing Sponsorship to Progressive Automotive X PRIZE Team VEperformance

BIEL, Switzerland — IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:IXYS) is promoting the development of the
highly efficient electric vehicle industry by sponsoring VEperformance
of Montreal, Quebec, one of the participants in the Progressive
Automotive X PRIZE competition.
VEperformance has developed a unique permanent magnet electric motor
(patent pending) specifically for real-world electric vehicles, and is
using this competition to catapult its innovative technology to
mainstream use. To date, VEperformance is one of the 43 remaining teams
in the X PRIZE competition, down from a field of 136 teams originally
entered. The all-electric power train will provide approximately the
same power as the original V6 in the modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro but
with far superior fuel efficiency (much greater than 100 MPG equivalent)
with a range of more than 200 miles.
IXYS Corporations highly efficient Polar Power MOSFET HiPerFET
semiconductor technology has been the obvious choice to insure minimum
energy loss when controlling the electric motor in this vehicle. With
the goal of using the best available Power MOS technology for electrical
cars, Eric Nadeau, President of VEperformance, contacted IXYS CEO, Dr.

REAL CARS FOR REAL PEOPLE
The goal of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE is to inspire a
new generation of viable, safe and super fuel-efficient vehicles. $10
million in prizes will be awarded to the teams that win a rigorous long
distance staged competition for clean, production-capable and super fuel
efficient vehicles that exceed 100 MPG equivalent fuel economy (MPGe).
This final competition is scheduled for the fall of 2010.
