IXYS Providing Sponsorship to Progressive Automotive X PRIZE Team VEperformance

Business Wire, March 25, 2010

BIEL, Switzerland — IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:IXYS) is promoting the development of the
highly efficient electric vehicle industry by sponsoring VEperformance
of Montreal, Quebec, one of the participants in the Progressive
Automotive X PRIZE competition.

VEperformance has developed a unique permanent magnet electric motor
(patent pending) specifically for real-world electric vehicles, and is
using this competition to catapult its innovative technology to
mainstream use. To date, VEperformance is one of the 43 remaining teams
in the X PRIZE competition, down from a field of 136 teams originally
entered. The all-electric power train will provide approximately the
same power as the original V6 in the modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro but
with far superior fuel efficiency (much greater than 100 MPG equivalent)
with a range of more than 200 miles.

IXYS Corporations highly efficient Polar Power MOSFET HiPerFET
semiconductor technology has been the obvious choice to insure minimum

It’s a pool of tears as Potts’s title bid fails

0 Comments | Sentinel, The; Stoke-on-Trent (UK), Jul 9, 2010 | by Trevor Baxter

GARETH Potts cried tears of sadness not joy in Blackpool last night after failing to regain his Foster’s World 8-Ball Pool title.

The Norton Heights star played his part in one of the highest quality finals in the 18-year history of the tournament, Three-time winner Potts finished on the wrong end of an 11-8 score line as Dudley’s Mick Hill joined a select group of players to have lifted the trophy twice.

The number two seed was so disappointed he could hardly speak when interviewed in the arena immediately after the match at Blackpool’s Imperial Hotel.

“It’s the first time I’ve lost in a world final and it’s not a nice feeling,” he said after collecting a Pounds 5,000 consolation prize.

“Mick’s a fantastic player, but it’s just a shame there had to be a loser – me.”

There was never more than two frames between the former England team mates.

However, Hill, back from a six-month sojourn in American Pool, clinched the tournament’s deciding frame.

He did so helped by a fortuitous final break when a yellow dropped into a pocket after every other ball had stopped rolling.

Indeed, Hill won the last three frames after Potts fought back from 8-6 down to level at 8-8. “From 8-8 to 11-8 I hardly got my hand on the table,” added Potts, as Hill avenged his 2007 final defeat to his Potteries rival.

For Hill, it was his first world crown since 2004.

“I remember after that win saying to a former sponsor that the next few years were going to belong to me,” he recalled. “But Gareth was there and he said ‘watch out for me’.

“He was right, because it’s taken me six years to break the stranglehold.”

Potts’s day ended badly after a promising start, as he helped England win the men’s team title for the fourth successive year.

Potteries skipper Lee Kendall completed an 8-4 victory over the Welsh Federation by beating former European champion, Oly Bale.

Adam Davis, of Meir Hay, chipped in with frame wins over Ben Davies and Andy Macdonald.

“We normally lose a couple of matches or really struggle at some stage of the tournament,” said Kendall.

“But this year was different. Without being big headed, it was very comfortable.”

Ex-pupil in plea to save old school

0 Comments | Carmarthen Journal, Jun 30, 2010 | by IAN LEWIS

A FORMER pupil of a Carmarthen special school earmarked for closure has spoken of its vital role in helping children with learning and emotional difficulties.

Katie Lillycrop, 20, of Llanarthne, attended Aalton House in Llansteffan Road between 2005 and 2007 after struggling in mainstream education at the town’s former QE Cambria secondary school due to attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There is uncertainty over the school’s future, but it is understood that the school will stay open into the September term while talks over the pupils’ future continue.

One of the options being considered is giving pupils the choice of going to Ysgol Rhydygors across the road.

Praised Consultation with staff and parents over Aalton House’s closure follows an Estyn inspection which highlighted concerns over the state of the school building, but praised teaching standards.

Katie said her time at Aalton House was the making of her and paved the way to higher education at Coleg Sir Gar’s Graig campus — something she said would have been impossible for her at a mainstream school. Katie said: “I just couldn’t settle at QE Cambria. If it was not for Aalton House I would not be in college now, studying for a HND in computing and hoping to do a computing degree in the near future.”

Katie said Carmarthenshire Council should reassess the options facing pupils at Aalton House.

Teaching “The problem is the school building, not the teaching standards, so why not find another building. At Aalton House class sizes are small and there is a one-to-one style of teaching which I needed as well as the other children.

“Seeing that approach to teaching made me want to become a teacher myself.”

Katie’s mother, Jane Sandberg, said: “I saw a big difference in Katie when she went Aalton House and it is awful to think the school could close leaving other children without that level of support.”

Council head of governance and inclusion Gareth Morgans said: “We have now met the staff and informed them that the provision at Aalton House will be closed.

“A formal process has commenced with staff members and their unions.

“Parents and pupils have been informed via letter and are being invited to individual meetings with managers to discuss future provision.

“Rhydygors Special School is developing their provision for pupils and current Aalton House pupils will be invited to visit Rhydygors Day Centre to see the teaching areas and meet with the head teacher.”. ian.lewis@swwmedia.co.uk House pupils will be invited to visit Rhydygors Day Centre to see the teaching areas and meet with the head teacher.”

Fable creator promises much

0 Comments | Press, The; Christchurch, New Zealand, Jul 27, 2010 | by Gerard CAMPBELL

Briton Peter Molyneux speaks from the heart about his games – then lets the PR people deal with the fallout. Gerard Campbell , who has interviewed Molyneux twice in the past two years, wouldn’t want it any other way.

During my 35-minute interview with the famed British game designer Peter Molyneux, he twice mentions farting.

In fact, Molyneux, the brains behind such PC games as Populus, Syndicate, Black and White, and Magic Carpet, jokes that just having the fart mechanic in Fable 2 – where the game’s hero can break wind at the press of a button – was enough to sell 50,000 copies of the game in Britain alone. Molyneux is sitting on a leather chair in a small room on the first floor of software giant Microsoft’s booth at the E3 expo in Los Angeles, his arms waving as he tells a small group of journalists about his next game, Fable 3, due out on the Xbox 360.

Molyneux , who has in the past been accused of overselling features of his games then under- delivering, gets animated when he talks about the changes in Fable 3, the third game in the role- playing series set in the mythical kingdom of Albion.

“I want to have the most unique story ever, but why be trapped in a role-playing game [RPG]? Why can’t we move from RPG to action – and keep all the RPG stuff? Just because it’s a third in the series why can’t we introduce totally new game play mechanics that have never been seen in Fable, or indeed in any other game? That’s exactly what we’ve done.”

Story is important, says Molyneux, adding that the development team questioned the traditional hero defeats bad guy scenario

There were also topical notions. The result was total success, without scarring.

Until I went to a dermatologist, though, there was little or no gain in getting rid of this foul condition. I, like other children, were subject to disturbing concepts of its origins. Although this was a long time ago, these myths have stayed around- often causing grave delays in seeking treatment.

One of the myths is that acne is caused by everyday dirt and surface oil on the skin and that the solution is frequent and vigorous washing of the skin. Vigorous washing of the face to cure acne is a myth. The fact is- the problems that have caused chronic acne are deeper, beneath the skin?s surface and that only a mild washing of the face is in order, often accompanied with specific solutions prescribed for treating the acne by a dermatologist.

Gardening Q & A

0 Comments | Sunday Mail (Glasgow, Scotland), August 30, 2009

Byline: Carolyn Spray

Q My herbaceous plants look very untidy after flowering but I have been told I have to leave them to protect against frost. Do I?

A If you trim your plants now they will still make some growth before autumn and many will flower again.

Q I have been impressed with my border carnations over the past few years but this year some have gone yellow and collapsed. What is this?

A This is probably a fungus disease called Fusarium which blocks the water tubes within the stem and causes the plant to wilt and die. There is no effective control so don’t replant in the same area.

Q Some of my early potatoes have a very rough, spotty skin. What is this and are they safe to eat?

A This is potato scab – an organism which causes the skin of the small tubers to react against it by producing corky patches. They are safe to eat.

Q I bought two courgette plants but they produced great big marrows. Should I complain?

A Courgettes are in fact marrows which are bred to produce lots of fruits. You must cut them when they are four or five inches long.

Q I have been trying to buy spring cabbage plants but can’t find any. What can I do?

A There is still time to sow your own using a variety like Durham Early. Sow them in drills outside or into a plug tray. Plant out when ready.

Q I bought some wonderful tayberries from a farm shop. Can I grow my own and if so when would I plant them?

A Tayberry is a hybrid between a blackberry and a raspberry. They are best planted November to March in good soil in full sun

Petrol for plot to set ONGC on fire was taken from bike

0 Comments | DNA : Daily News & Analysis; Mumbai, Jul 23, 2010 | by Rao, Menaka

The source of the 10 litres of petrol which was to be allegedly used to set afire the ONGC building, Thakkar Mall and Mangaldas Market was the motorcycle of one of the accused in the case, said the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

The ATS said this in a reply filed by investigating officer Mohan Kulkarni, opposing the bail applications filed by the two arrested accused – Abdul Latif and Riyaz Ali Shaikh.

In the bail petitions, which will be heard on Friday, the accused had argued that the ATS had not revealed the source of petrol as it is difficult to obtain so much petrol in the market.

“During the interrogation of the accused persons, it was revealed that motorcycle used by Riyaz Ali was the source of petrol,” stated the reply.

Defence lawyer Ramdayal Chauhan said, “They are revealing this for the first time. Nowhere has it been mentioned in the charge sheet that the source of the petrol was a motorcycle. This has been fabricated.”

Incidentally, petrol is not available in the market unless filled in a vehicle.

The reply also states the word paani (water), used in the conversations between Latif and Shiakh, refers to petrol.

“Though the word petrol is not used in the conversation, the word paani is referred to as the material to be used to set the buildings on fire. When the sentences are taken into consideration wholly, the meaning is very clear,” states the reply

A camcorder having dvd facility is dvd

Posted on July 28th, 2010 by admin

A camcorder having dvd facility is dvd camcorder. A camcorder is powered with a camcorder battery.

Sony introduced the first camcorder in 1983, followed by Kodak in 1984. The first camcorders combined the video-camera with an existing full-size VHS/Betamax recorder. These camcorders were large devices that required a sturdy tripod or strong shoulders to stably support the camera’s bulk. The majority of these were designed for right-handed operation, except a few that possessed ambidextrous ergonomics.

Sony introduced the first HandyCam camcorder in 1984. The HandyCam could be held and operated entirely within the palm of the operator’s hand, made possible by the 8mm video format.

The lens, imager, and recorder are the three major components of a camcorder. The lens gathers and focuses light on the imager. The imager (usually a CCD (charge-coupled device) or CMOS sensor IC on modern camcorders; earlier examples often used vidicon tubes) converts incident light into an electrical (video) signal.

These new age players have user-friendly features like instant replay and skip facility, progressive scan system, and digital photo viewer capability.

One look at the various electronics stores in Italy brings forward a variety of qualities that high definition DVD players have. There are plenty of high definition wireless media players available in Italy that have various features like progressive scan and parent control system. They cost only around $200, which is quite a bargain. The HD-DVD players from Buffalo are quite famous all over Italy and are priced around $160. Sony also comes up with its DVD players in Italy with a plethora of features like HDMI exit and the players have an upper scale function of 720p/1080i. They are priced a little over $170. Another famous brand in Italy that provides high definition DVD players is Samsung. Samsung players provide almost the same video output as Sony HD-DVD players, and are priced unbelievably around $100.

We didn’t cause the problem yet we’re made to feel guilty about it.

The worse case of this is the charity collectors who corner you when you’ve gone out for a drink with your friends. You’re made to feel guilty that you’re out enjoying yourself while people in the World are suffering so you throw your loose coins in the bucket. But, why should you have to feel guilty because you’ve worked hard to earn enough for a night out?

You’re not giving your money out of generosity. You don’t feel any sense of pride or satisfaction after doing it. All you’re doing is trying to avoid the guilt and embarrassment you’d feel to be stood with your friends and not be seen to be acting “generously”.
